Kakamega: Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology was Tuesday closed due to unrest after students who had not cleared fees were barred from taking examination.

The examinations that were slated for last week were postponed to April 14 to allow students to settle their fees arrears. A meeting held on Friday, however, decided that only those who had paid fees would sit the end of semester exams. Unrest has been ongoing since then, leading to the closure.

In a circular, the university Senate ordered students to vacate the campus by 11am.

"This is to inform all students that due to the ongoing unrest of disrupting examinations from taking place, the University Senate has decided to close the university with immediate effect,” read the notice dated April 12.
