Several injured in horrific road accident involving Citi Hoppa bus

Several people have been seriously injured when the driver of a Citi Hopa company bus they were travelling in lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle veered off the road and landed on its side, forcing some of the passengers to jump out of the windows for their own safety.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the bus came skidding from Silver Springs round about and hit a motor cycle operator before landing on its side.

The bus was full to capacity, and it took the efforts of well wishers to get them off the wreckage of the car to nearby hospital.

Nairobi County traffic commander Edward Mwamburi said the area is a black spot because of the slippery gradient, and when motorists exceed the spit limit, it may result to accidents.

"The road is on a slippery gradient, so drivers should always slow down when they approach so that they do not cause any accident," said Mwamburi.

In May, another bus was involved in an accident, a few metres away from where yesterday's accident occured.

Boda boda operators around the area blamed motorists for always flaunting traffic rules whenever they approach the area, claiming that most of them always take advantage of the smooth traffic flow in the area, especially during off peak time.

Police had not established if there had been any fatalities, since the victims had been taken to different hospitals including Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi Hospital.

The police warned drivers to be extra careful, adding that the impending El Nino is likely to make roads more slippery.
