MCAs panic as Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission probes Sh1.7m expense on funeral

An alleged misuse of Sh1.7 million allocated for the funeral of Ward Representative Ronald Matongolo in Trans-Nzoia last year has put local MCAs in trouble.

Officials from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have pitched tent in Kitale to grill the 38 MCAs over the alleged sharing of the money.

Last week on Monday, EACC officials arrested and arraigned in court two county assembly officers on corruption charges. Panic has spread at the county assembly since Tuesday when the EACC officials started to grill the MCAs.

The MCAs reportedly shared out the money meant to facilitate their travel to Nairobi to make funeral arrangements of their colleague who had died at a hospital there.

Leader of Majority Alfred Weswa and Deputy Speaker David Kapoloman were the first to appear before the EACC team. They argued the money in question was their allowance for an inter-county games trip.
