Drug barons furious after cocaine worth Sh1.5 trillion was accidentally delivered to supermarkets as bananas

Drug barons in Columbia will be going bananas after Sh1.5 trillion worth of cocaine hidden in fruit boxes was accidentally delivered to a group of Aldi supermarkets.

Large shipments of the drug were mistakenly delivered to 13 branches of the supermarket in Berlin in what police have labelled "a logistical mistake".

Packets of the class-A substance were found hidden in boxes of bananas that travelled through the port of Hamburg and onto the budget grocery stores.

Bizarrely, it is not the first time the supermarkets have received an unwanted shipment of drugs.

In January, £5million worth of cocaine was delivered to the very same stores.

Aldi staff in Berlin discovered the cocaine wrapped up between bananas as they unpacked the fruit, according to the local newspaper Berliner Morgenpost.

Drug smugglers regularly conceal their illegal shipments as everyday goods to bypass strict border controls.

Police in Germany discovered a massive 727lbs of heroin, reported to be the biggest single seizure for decades, in a truck shipping pickled cucumbers and garlic from Iran in October.

Last year, American delivery company FedEx accidentally uncovered a drug smuggling operation when they inspected a damaged package in Washington.

An inspection of a damaged packet led to the discovery of a drug-smuggling business that delivered hundreds of illegal painkillers around the US, according to Kxly/ABC news .

One gang from the West Midlands even concealed heroin in packets of chilli powder but the shipment was intercepted at Leeds Bradford airport.
