KEBS tips private, public sector on CSR standards

The private and public sectors have been urged to benchmark their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities with international standards.

Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Managing Director Charles Ongwae said incorporating the ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Standards in their operating frameworks, will not only increase their trust among the key stakeholders, but also grow their businesses.

"In the current times organisations are not only operating for the sake of making profits but also operate sustainably within their ecosystems. The public demands to know what they are doing in helping/assisting communities," he said during a stakeholder's forum that was organised by TradeMark East Africa.

He said consumers have become aware of the importance of dealing with a company that is operating sustainably. The ISO 26000 is an international standard giving guidance and standards on Social Responsibility.
