Justin Muturi leads team to Western for public awareness exercise

Kenya: Parliament has planned a public outreach exercise in five counties in Western Kenya, three months after its open day was held in Nairobi.

The Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) has organised the event, which seeks to bring together all elected leaders and locals from Busia, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, Vihiga and Bungoma counties on November 27 to 28.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye noted the exercise is aimed at establishing the public’s perception of Parliament. “We want to know how the public perceives Parliament and ensure efficiency and effective representation of the constituents at the grassroots and national level,” stated Muturi, who is also the PSC chairman.

The Parliamentary leadership has identified devolution as one of the topics of discussion.  Nyegenye affirmed that the exercise to cost approximately Sh20 million will enhance public participation as envisaged in the law.
