Registrar denies reports Musalia Mudavadi isn't UDF leader

Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndung'u has denied reports that United Democratic Front (UDF) leader Musalia Mudavadi is not an official of the party.

Instead, Ndung'u clarified that she had received a court order for the status quo to be maintained at the party, pending hearing and determination of the ouster of UDF Chairman Hassan Osman and his team by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.

In a statement sent to newsrooms last evening, the registrar said the matter is still pending and it would be sub-judicial to comment.

"The office of the registrar categorically denies having written a letter to the duo (Musalia Mudavadi and Jeremiah Kioni) informing them they are not officials and cannot act or transact business of the forum.

"The contents of the entire publication are misleading and do not reflect the factual position of the matter. The office seeks for a clarification to be published to the public for information," said Ms Ndung'u.

Already, there is a case before the parties tribunal pitting UDF against the party's nominated MP Hassan Osman.

Mudavadi's spokesman Kibisu Kabatesi said the National Delegates Conference (NDC) ratified and endorsed him as party leader and Kioni as his deputy.

Kabatesi said the registrar had the amended UDF constitution creating the positions. He said the two are the only ratified officials while the rest act in an interim capacity.

"The fake document does not reflect the true status of party officials under the duly registered and gazetted UDF constitution 2013," said Kabetesi.

Kabatesi now wants the registrar to come clean on why UDF records have taken extraordinarily long to be updated and explain delays in acknowledging UDF's correspondence.
