You have done us proud, President Uhuru Kenyatta tells Kenyan athletes

Nairobi,Kenya– President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated the Kenyan team to the Glasgow Commonwealth games, terming their performance ‘exceptionally fantastic’.

The President said the team’s splendid performance in Glasgow has once again vindicated Kenya’s position as an athletics powerhouse globally.

“You been very good ambassadors for Kenya. You have done us proud and the country is happy to celebrate your victory,” President Kenyatta said in a massage to the team.

He singled out Javelin thrower Julius Yego – fondly referred to as ‘YouTube Athlete’ – for spicing Kenya’s sterling performance at Glasgow by bagging the country’s first gold medal in a field event at an international competition.

“News of your achievement has come as a great delight to all of us here.

All your hard work, commitment and practice have paid off,” President Kenyatta said.

At the just concluded 2014 Commonwealth games, Kenya emerged 3rd in Africa and 9th overall after winning 25 medals –10 gold, 10 silver and five bronze.
