National Youth Service to be restructured President Uhuru Kenyatta promises

NAIROBI: Government is restructuring the National Youth Service to effectively execute its mandate, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.

The President said NYS was critical especially at this time when the Government is keen on ensuring that youth played a key role in the country’s development agenda.

He spoke when he witnessed the swearing-in of Dr Nelson Githinji as the new Director General of the National Youth Service (NYS) at his Harambee House office.

President Kenyatta congratulated the Director General on his appointment and wished him well in his new assignment.

The President urged the new Director General to serve the country and youth with dedication.

“Am sure you are capable of delivering to the youth and the country. Your organization is important in helping us to mainstream youth in development,” President Kenyatta said.

Dr Githinji was until his new appointment the Tourism Secretary and replaces Mr Kiplimo Rugut who has been re-deployed.

The Swearing-in ceremony was conducted by the Principal Administrative Secretary at the Presidency Stephen Kirogo.

The swearing-in ceremony was also witnessed by Cabinet Secretaries, Felix Kosgei (Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries), Davis Chirchir (Energy and Petroleum), Joseph ole Lenku (Interior and Coordination of National Government) and Anne Waiguru (Devolution and Planning).
