Kwale County showcases its best at London travel fair

One of the luxury apartments that are making their way in tourism town of Diani in Kwale County. The county is eyeing both tourists and international investors.

Kwale County Government was among several counties that exhibited at this year’s 37th World Travel Market (WTM) tourism trade fair in London.

The event brought together over 40 other Kenyan exhibitors drawn from airlines, hoteliers and tour operators.

Adan Sheikh, the Kwale County Executive in charge of Tourism, ICT and Investment said they wooed both tourists and international investors.

“We are endowed with Africa’s best beach frontage, wildlife and highly rated resorts which are a must visit. It is only in Kwale where one can swim with the largest fish in the ocean – the whale shark  encounter the largest mammal on earth,” said Sheikh, a veteran hotelier.

On the other hand, the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) said Kenya’s participation in the annual global tourism trade fair came hot on the heels of impressive international arrivals after the sector posted a 17.2 per cent growth.

The Kenyan delegation rode on the positives Kenya has recorded in recent past including hosting key international events and high profile personalities.

“We are riding on the positive image the country is enjoying globally to re-affirm our position as the preferred tourist destination as well as Kenya’s commitment to improvement of tourism business” said KTB acting Chief Executive Officer Jacinta Nzioka.

County governments, tour operators, hoteliers are among the travel traders promoting diverse tourism products and services the country has to offer. “WTM is one of the platforms of showcasing Kenya’s destination and product diversification,” added Ms Nzioka.
