Kenya, let's go greener!

History is replete with many men and women who dared change the world. One thing in all their stories stand out and that is they dared dream when everybody else was asleep, they dared go where everyone else was afraid to go. Sometimes though, it required the collective efforts of a few committed people to make an impact. All this leads me to hail a group of young professionals from Kaiti, Makueni who have joined to promote climate awareness and Green Kenya through the application of the Moittanai Koto 3R principle of reduce, reuse and recycle. Their story makes the words of Margret Mead truer when she says never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

Closely looking at the issues that Kaiti Greening Champions (KGC) and other Greening groups are trying to highlight at a time when everyone else is focused on politics one sees the need for more environmental groups, clubs in schools and churches and all of us to be conscious of our environment. There is a saying that we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors but we borrow it from our children and grandchildren. It cannot be further from the truth. Today we need to conserve our natural forests, our water catchment areas, our natural rivers and lakes and our atmosphere more than ever before. The only way is to follow the path that Prof. Wangari Mathai showed us, Go green.
