Al Shabaab terror suspect held at Namanga border

Police in Kajiado have arrested a suspect believed to be a member of Al Shabaab.

The suspect from Uganda was arrested last Wednesday in Namanga on the Kenya-Tanzania border.

Ngatia Iregi, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations officer in charge of the county, said the suspect was found with flags and pictures related to the militia group.

"When our officers manning the border searched the man, he was found in possession of flags related to Al Shabaab including photos of different scenes of crime where the group had attacked earlier," said Mr Ngatia.

During the interrogation, the suspect told the police that he was travelling to Tanzania to visit his lover whom he had not seen for a long time.

He also revealed that he had worked for the Uganda Army when he was only 13 years old.

The suspect who also worked at an international NGO joined AMISOM in Somalia but later abandoned the job.

Ngatia said the suspect was being detained to allow for investigations.
