IDPA Shooting: Mombasa gears up for Crown Paints NGAO shoot

Bamburi Rifle Club will host an IDPA-sanctioned tournament on August 30. It is  organised by the Kenya Gun Owners Association (NGAO).

The tournament’s match director Master Sammy Onyango, who will also be the Chief Safety Officer said they expect over 100 participants for the competition, which has been approved by the International Defensive Pistol Association.

Onyango, recently promoted from Expert to Master shooter after winning gold at the South Africa Northern Nationals will be assisted by Martin Mbutura (Competitions captain), Alex Migwi (Assistant Match Director), Sunny Syan (Primary Safety Officer) and other Primary Safety Officers and Safety Officers.

Safety Officers will be the first to shoot on August 30 and thereafter the rest of the competitors during the two-day competition.

“Everything is going according to plan. We call upon shooters from around the country to come out in numbers,” Onyango told Standard Sports.

Firearms Licensing Board chairman Charles Mukindia said the board will continue to support the activities of the NGAO and their pursuit of IDPA Shooting as a sport.

“We are happy that NGAO has been approved to host a tournament of such magnitude. This will definitely place Kenya on the world map. We are proud of the continued growth of the game locally and as such, will do everything within the law to assist them develop the game,” Mukindia said when he received the Kenyan flag from Onyango upon return from Northern Nationals in South Africa on Wednesday. “We will do everything within the law to assist the Gun Owners Association in organising the event.
