Wanyama played for his now-Spurs boss at Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has provided a fitness update on Victor Wanyama ahead of the crunch Premier League clash with Crystal Palace this Sunday.

Wanyama who played two games for Spurs this season picked up the injury while training against Burnley in August.

Pochettino would not rush into a judgement of the scale of Wanyama’s injury but suggested he is not sure whether Wanyama will make Tottenham return this year.

"He's doing well, getting better every day. That is good," said the Argentine.

"Yesterday he was training alone, still not with the group, but with the sports scientist and physio. It was good. The reaction from his knee was good.

"He's getting better every day. We'll see if he can be available as soon as possible to help the team.

"I don't know. I cannot guess. It's like [Erik] Lamela, now he needs to feel his knee is safe and good and ready to step up again."
