Sigh of relief as Nyamira Deputy Governor nominee is allowed to be vetted by Court

15th January, 2021

A sigh of relief as Nyamira Deputy Governor nominee is allowed to be vetted by Court. By Stanley Ongwae Nyamira County Governor Amos Nyaribo can finally heave a sigh of relief after his nominee for the County Deputy Governor Dr James Gesami was allowed to be vetted by the High Court after an injunction to bar him was lifted. The injunction that had sought to stop the vetting was filed by a private citizen who cited constitutionality of the nomination. High Court Judge Maurine Onyango, through an order that was signed on January 14, 2021, gave a green light to the County Assembly to ahead with the vetting after the petitioner, Mr Vincent Marita made an urgent application to withdraw the petition. The withdrawal orders were received at the Assembly by the Speaker at around 5pm Thursday evening. Friday morning, Dr Gesami appeared before the Assembly's Appointments Committee for the interview accompanied by his wife Rachel and their five children. Dr Gesami was appointed by Nyaribo out of a list of more than 70 interested people, including the Assembly Speaker Mr Teya. Gesami who is 67, hails from  Bogichora Clan of West Mugirango who are majority. His appointment could be a plus to Nyaribo's governance especially owing to his development track record which he laid bare during the vetting. Gesami told the Committee that it was during his 10-year reign as the MP for West Mugirango when he built 10 health centres from scratch to completion.
