The Independent Electoral And Boundaries Commission IEBC has set in motion the process of verifying the 4.4 million signatures in support of the constitution of Kenya amendment bill (2020), after it enlisted and trained 400 signature verification clerks and 60 supervisors Wednesday. The verification exercise expected to take an approximate 40 days, is the first of five mandatory phases ahead of a referendum. And as Ibrahim Karanja reports, commission chair Wafula Chebukati now says that the commission will only follow the laid down constitutional timelines, putting in doubts wishes by proponents of the BBI of having a referendum by June of 2021.
