A Mother's Pain: 37-year-old woman from Taita Taveta in agony over swelling stomach

Segolina Katini 37 years is a mother of two from Mghange Dawida location in Wundanyi Sub- County in Taita Taveta County. She is an experienced suit tailor but sickness has made her down her tools. She started having stomach aches and swelling last year in August. She started seeking treatment at various hospitals without success. In the ninth month she was sent for scanning and was diagnosed with kidney problems. Since her stomach keeps on swelling she is forced to visit the doctor every 2 days so that she can be drained off water in her stomach. According to her every visit she pays sh3000 twice a week, and at every visit 4-5liters of water is drained from her stomach. Due to the expensive cost of her medication her family has so far been drained off financially leaving them to depend on WhatsApp contributions which have not been sustainable. Her elder sister Hildanora Katini who is currently housing her at Msambweni village in Voi as she attends weekly clinics at Moi County referral Hospital in Voi. Hildanora, who is also a widow, hopes funds will be raised to rescue her younger sister who is crying in pain on bed helplessly. Recently she was advised to visit doctors at Mombasa for further medication with a deposit of sh350,000 but due to the situation they are unable to raise it. Now they are appealing to well wishers to be touched in their hearts and support her to get treatment and move on with her normal life.
