MP Alice Wahome slams Uhuru, says he's "Kenya's biggest threat to declining economy and democracy"

2nd January, 2020

“The biggest existential threat to Kenya’s declining economy, democracy and freedom of speech is President Uhuru Kenyatta,” this is according to Member of Parliament (MP) Alice Wahome.

According to the Kandara lawmaker, Uhuru inherited what she says is, “a rich democracy from retired President Mwai Kibaki, but under his tutelage, Kenya has seen deterioration over the same”.

Wahome now claims that Uhuru and former Premiere Raila Odinga are planning to use the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report as a ‘political mercenary’ to disregard the Constitution and cling onto power post 2022.

Senior politicians have in the recent past alluded to the idea that at the age of 60 years, President Uhuru will be too young to hang his political boots. The leaders include COTU Boss Francis Atwoli, former Jubilee Party Vice-Chairperson David Murathe and most recently former minister Noah Wekesa, with Wahome saying that those persons maybe opining to what is the actual plan.

Although the Jubilee MP, who was once Uhuru’s ardent political foot soldier in Central region, says Uhuru has not come out to respond to those suggestions, the President has on more than one occasion insisted that he is not interested in leadership past 2022.

In fact, back in October 2019 while launching Phase 2A of the SGR project, Uhuru said he is tired and wants to retire after 2022.
