31st December, 2019

After the October 26, 2017 repeat Presidential Election, in which President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared winner to serve his second and last term in office as per the dictates of the 2010 Constitution, 2022 succession politics immediately started playing out, with his Deputy William Ruto perceived to be the frontrunner in occupying the house on the hill.

Two years down the line, however, Kenya’s political scene has seen many if not major political twists, including but not limited to; The March 9, 2018 Handshake between political nemesis Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga-consequently giving fourth to The much-talked BBI report, cracks in ruling Jubilee Party-resulting in the formation of Tangatanga (Pro-Ruto) and Kieleweke (Pro-Uhuru) rival factions, heightened fight against corruption and theft of public money, the ‘political bromance in Parliament’ between the ruling Jubilee and Opposition lawmakers, the rise and fall of NASA Coalition, the emergence of ‘Handshake Candidates’ and ‘Bedroom Politics’ just to  name but a few.

In all this twists, Governance Expert Javas Bigambo opines that President Uhuru Kenyatta will play a very big role in determining who the 5th President of Kenya will be. This is his perspective on the vital role that Uhuru will play in 2022 succession politics.
