Kwale Sugar Woes: Over 1000 farmers affected by closure of KISCOL

The Kwale International Sugar Company Limited (KISCOL) Out?Growers Society Has Appealed To The Government To Speed Up The Reopening Of Kiscol Milling Plant. According To The Society’s Chairman David Ndirangu, Over 1000 Farmers Affiliated To The Miller Have Lost Two Consecutive Harvests And Are At Risk Of Losing Their Livelihoods.The Kwale Based Miller Was Shutdown After The Kenya Bureau Of Standards (Kebs) Ordered Its Closure In June 2018. Out?Growers However Argue That The High Court Sitting In Mombasa Reversed The Closure, Declaring It Illegal After The Factory’s Management Sued Kebs And Issued A Permanent Injunction Restraining The Agency From Seizure Of The Miller’s Consignment.
