After the much anticipated BBI report launch at the Bomas of Kenya, politicians from different factions started doing what they do best, politicking…Those allied to DP William Ruto were quick to laud the BBI task-force for coming up with a document, they say, is right for Kenyans albeit the implementation process was where they differ with their counterpart allied to AU Special Envoy Raila Odinga. Ruto allies are of the opinion that the report should take the Parliamentary route, while the Raila brigade say Kenyans should be left to decide the fate of the document i.e. a referendum. 

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, while addressing residents of Uriri Constituency over the weekend, delved into the debate too, ruling out the possibility of settling on a parliamentary process to implement the report, citing lack of proper mechanism to table the report. His assertions did not sit well with Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, who now alleges that MP John Mbadi bribed Muturi with a tilapia meal. The vocal lawmaker has even threatened to start the process of impeaching the Speaker.

But according to Constitutional Lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo, the process of removing a speaker may look simple on the eyes, but in reality it is such a herculean task. Waiganjo says that Kuria will not be able to garner the 2/3-majority threshold on the floor of the house to impeach the speaker.
