TOURISM BOOM: Watamu, Malindi register high bookings, hotel occupancy now at 80%

The Tourism Sector In The North Coast Region Has Started Booming Even As The Festive Season Kicks In. A Spot Check Showed That Hoteliers Are Recording An Increase In A Number Of Tourists In Their Resorts As Revelers Flock In For Their December Holidays.  In Malindi And Watamu, Tourism Stakeholders Have Expressed Optimism That The Foreign Tourism Numbers Will Increase This Season Following Key Infrastructure Put In Place By The Government. Currently, Hotel Owners Have Recorded An 8% Occupancy. Data Shows That Last Year The Total Number Of Italian Tourists Who Visited Was 65,000 After Years Of Decline In Numbers Due To The Economic Crisis In Italy And Insecurity Cases In Kenya.
