President Uhuru Kenyatta’s latest trip to China was to attend this year’s belt and road forum after signing the agreement with China in September 2018.
China has been making deals to establish new geo-economic partnerships with various countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe. This phase of Chinese foreign policy seeks to recreate the famous silk-road that linked Beijing to the Mediterranean region and Kenya is an important link.
The Belt and Road Initiative is a global development strategy adopted by the Chinese government involving infrastructure development and investments in 152 countries and international organizations in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas.
