IMPUNITY! Huduma Namba agent charging Kenyans Sh300 to register them

16th May, 2019

The registration period for Huduma Namba ends on May 18 and as expected, Kenyans are rushing to beat the deadline.

For the past few days, long queues have been spotted at various registration centres after Interior CS Fred Matiang’i stated that the period will not be extended.

It has now emerged that some unscrupulous agents are taking advantage of the rush to ask Kenyans for money to speed up the process.
In a video seen by Ureport, one agent is seen asking for Sh300 per person as she claims the machines are faulty and she has to go for a new one.

The lady in the clip further assures those waiting to register that they will not have to queue once they part with the amount.

Kenyans online quickly weighed in on the matter and condemned the incident, calling for arrests to be made.

Earlier this week CS Matiang’i noted that over 30 million Kenyans had already registered for Huduma Namba and it would be costly to extend the process since the agents are being paid Sh1000 per day.

“So far 31 million Kenyans have registered for Huduma Namba which is 65 per cent of our projected population in the country in terms of registration.
