Kenya Women Parliamentarians Association renew lobbying for enactment of two-thirds gender principle

26th February, 2019

Female legislators under the umbrella of the Kenya Women Parliamentarians Association have renewed lobbying for enactment of the elusive not?more?than?two thirds gender principle. The legislators are lobbying ahead of a vote on the elusive principle in the national assembly tomorrow afternoon. The house had prior to recesses late last year differed the vote over fears of likely lack of quorum to pass the bill. The bill sponsored by majority leader Aden Duale requires at least two?thirds of all the members to be present and to vote for the bill. A similar subsequent vote is necessary before the Senate for the bill to be presented to the president for assent or rejection.
