The once vibrant beaches along the shores of Lake Victoria are now a pale shadow of their old selves, thanks to the invasive water hyacinth weed.
The beaches have been abandoned, and once busy boats are now entrapped in the weed, rotting away.
Kevin Ogutu visited Usoma beach in Kisumu, one of the beaches in state of disrepair, and as he now reports, the fishermen here have been forced to collect young catfish
for use as bait by fishermen in other parts of Lake Victoria that are yet to be invaded the water hyacinth.
