Girls who have been exposed to FGM are suffering silently

26th December, 2018

Cases of Female Genital Mutilation in Tana River County are reported to be on the rise especially among floods victims residing in different IDP camps. The rise has created fear among local with community leaders calling on an immediate action to be taken to stem the vice. According to a human rights activists in the area, young girls as young as 10 years and below are being exposed to FGM practices in the community and end up being married off at a tender age.  Addressing locals during an anti?FGM campaign, the activists say girls who have been exposed to FGM are suffering silently. However its not all gloom in the fight against FGM after community elders accepted to jointly cooperate with human rights activists as well as NGOs to discourage FGM.
