Last Monday’s traffic gridlock in Nairobi occasioned by barring of Matatus from the central business district was a symptom of a failed transport system in the country’s capital. While the reason behind the move by Nairobi county government is to decongest Nairobi, the traffic chaos depicted lack of proper planning for the city. While Kenya grapples with the problem of congestion, other big cities in the world such as Paris in France have a working transport system and only care about other issues such as pollution.
