Speaking during the commissioning of KCB youth empowerment program on Thursday, December 6, in Nairobi, President Uhuru Kenyatta defended the appointment of retired Vice President Moody Awori despite public anger.
Uhuru alluded that when he appoints youth to such position, they end up plundering government resources hence prefers working with older generation who will safeguard public funds.
"I saw I was being criticised yesterday for appointing a 91-year-old to look after the youth’s sports fund, if you were in my shoes what would you do when you see money being stolen left right and center? I rather stick with the old man so long as money is not misappropriated," he said.
Mr. Awori will be part of a seven-member team mandated with managing the sports fund. The team will also monitor funds to avoid double payment from its kitty and international federations.
