Members of the national assembly for the second day continued to debate the gender rule bill that seeks to ensure that not more than two thirds of the members in appointive and elective public bodies shall be of the same gender. The bill was moved Tuesday by majority leader Aden Duale who urged his colleagues to pass it to avoid the prospect of a petition to have parliament dissolved if it fails. Despite that, debate on the floor of the house has attracted support and opposition in equal measure. The fate of the bill will be known next week when MPS will be called upon to vote.
