The Energy Regulatory Commission reviews tarrifs to accommodate more households and reduce cost

Domestic households and sme's using less than 100kwh are set to breathe a sigh of relief as the energy regulatory commission reviews tarrifs to accommodate more households and reduce cost of power. Effective 1st of November 2018, households using less than100kwh both prepaid and postpaid will be charged Sh10 per unit down

From Sh12 per unit.  Under the new amendments the small commercial category has been divided into two categories. small commercial 1 which covers sme's using less than 100kwh will see a 30% drop from sh. 15.6 per unit to Sh10 per unit.  Small commercial 2 will cover sme’s using more than 100kwh. The amendment comes days after President Uhuru Kenyatta's directive to reduce the cost of electricity for sme's 3 months after ERC announced a new payment structure with fixed charges to address the fluctuations in power bills.
