I washed a corpse for 40 days to save my life - Penninah Owuor

30th October, 2018

27-year-old Penninah Owuor recounts how in 2017, her former employer Mohammed Abdi Noor forced her to wash a dead body; at gun-point.

For 40 days Miss Owuor cleaned the male body, whose origin she never learned, at 10am every day.

She was instructed  on how to mix window cleaning fluid with warm water to clean the body.

Ms. Owuor recounts how every Tuesday and Friday, a man only identified as "daktari" would treat the body by injecting it all over with a fluid unknown to her to keep it from decomposing.

She also shares how on occasion, when cleaning the body, she would see mint Kenyan currency on the copse which Mr Noor would collect.

Miss Owuor recounts how for the 47 days that she was under Mr Noor's employ she was not paid and was even sexually assaulted.

Her tale spins a web of complicity on the part of police at Pangani Police Station when she reported the incident, and the long road to justice after Mr Noor posted bail when he was finally arrested.
