Twelve people including a minor died and twenty others were seriously injured following a grisly road accident in Gilgil along the Nairobi?Nakuru highway. 

Eleven of the victims died on the spot while one more died while undergoing treatment following the early morning accident that involved a bus and a trailer.

Among the dead were a group of mourners who were travelling from vihiga to Nairobi when the bus crashed into the side of the trailer. The driver whom some passengers accused of being reckless died on the spot while 25 passengers were rushed to Gilgil sub?county hospital before 11 were referred to rift valley pgh.at the scene, personal effects soaked in blood before traffic police moved in to tow away the wreckage to Gilgil police station. The accident came hours after officers from ntsa conducted a major crackdown along the same highway nabbing tens of defective vehicles.
