Pre?trial detainees at the Eldoret prison and remand have accused police and prosecutors of laxity which has resulted in a huge backlog of cases affecting the facility.

 The remandees told senators who were on a fact-finding mission that their situation has been made worse by lack of legal representation since some of the state lawyers seconded to defend them have often skipped court sessions.
