Omtatah moves to court to challenge President Uhuru's Police Service reforms

14th September, 2018

Rights activist Okiya Omtatah has filed a petition in the high court seeking to stop the implementation of the reforms in the police service announced yesterday by president Uhuru Kenyatta.

The reforms among other things seek to merge the national police service and administration police service.

Omtatah who says the reforms go against the constitution wants them declared unconstitutional.

He argues that neither the president nor CS Interior and Coordination have the powers to interfere with the structure of the regular and administration police. the petition that Omtatah cites as urgent will be placed before the presiding judge in the constitutional division for directions.
