Traffic officers explain the rising number of road accidents in the country

5th September, 2018

Latest statistics show that the number of accidents in the country rose by 21% in the months of July and August.

A parliamentary committee heard today that there were 507 deaths during the same period compared to 419 in 2017.

Top traffic police officers who appeared before a parliamentary committee were taken to task over the rise in the number of accidents since the responsibility was given back to them from the national transport and safety authority.

But in defense, the traffic officers told MPs that the traffic commandant was not mandated to oversee traffic operations in the country.
