Kenya’s ambassador to the US Robinson Njeru Githae has expressed optimism that direct flights between the two countries will benefit Kenya.
Speaking ahead of the much-anticipated meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his US counterpart Donald Trump, Githae said direct link presents exciting prospects for Kenya’s economy.

“As of now the US has overtaken the UK as our largest source market of tourist. More than 100,000 American tourists visited Kenya last year. We can easily double this number as and when we have direct flights,” Githae said.
On January 10, national carrier Kenya Airways announced that it would commence direct flights between Nairobi and New York after Kenya passed all the clearances and accreditation necessary.
Githae said that horticulture and the fisheries sectors are other big ticket beneficiaries of the new flight route.
