Leaders from the Western Kenya region led the country in marking the 15th anniversary of the late vice president Michael Kijana Wamalwa's death. 

During the memorial, Luhya leaders fully supported the new Luhya declaration that was pronounced. 

One of the points in the covenant being to urge the president to invoke powers given to him in the constitution and establish a commission of inquiry into the sugarcane scandal that now threatens the whole sugarcane growing region
