Residents of Kiriari village in Embu North have expressed concerns over the high costs of health services in the country with many opting for self-medication, as risky as that may be the residents claim that even those with the NHIF cards are not benefiting much from the accessible public health facilities whose stock of medicine is crippled. The said largely offer painkillers leaving patients to buy prescribed medicine from chemists, some of which are now cashing in on the medicine shortage in hospitals. The residents have petitioned the Embu County Assembly to sort out the medical supply shortages.
