Coffee societies to be audited by the government

21st August, 2018

Senate Agriculture committee chairman Njeru Ndwiga has called for a thorough forensic audit of all the coffee societies in the country so as to establish their levels of debt and how the debts were accrued.

Njeru Ndwiga who is also the Embu County senator says coffee farmers have continued to suffer in the hands of rogue society management that has been taking loans without the knowledge of farmers. Ndwiga has raised questions over piling debts when coffee sales continue to rise.

He also dismissed society leaders who are opposing the task force report on coffee saying that societies cannot seek for the help from the government and on the other hand oppose some clauses of the report. Manyatta member of parliament John Muchiri has reiterated the need for all coffee societies to adopt the task force report recommendations.
