Western Kenya Sugarcane farmers begin uprooting canes

Thousands of farmers in the sugar belt region of western Kenya are now abandoning sugar cane farming due to flooding of contraband products in the market. The suspension of sugar cane crushing by ailing Mumias sugar factory has contributed to low morale among the farmers who are now eyeing alternative agricultural ventures.
