Agriculture and trade joint parliamentary committees are currently questioning Cabinet Secretaries in the ongoing probe on contraband sugar in the country.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, industrialization CS Adan Mohammed, treasury CS Henry Rotich and interior and coordination cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i are expected are set to a before parliament to explain the presence of illicit sugar in the country.
A report from the government chemist has established that part of the sugar consignment seized was laced with copper. The committee earlier questioned the agriculture CS Kiunjuri on the circumstances that led to the issuance of gazette notice on duty waiver for sugar importation.
Kiunjuri was also asked why the government allowed importation of sugar in excess of the demand.
