Nearly 1.2 million Kenyans are born every year, with the World Bank estimating that the population grows at a rate of 2.6 percent annually.

This growth rate requires that the Government has to expend more of its budget to sustain the population growth, Strathmore don Dr Jim Mc Fie argues.

While the realities this rapid growth impacts all sectors, education is particularly affected as the Government has to fund the free education program.
