The Shamba System that is transforming forest cover initiative in Meru

Kenya’s forest cover stands at 6.2% with calls for planting of trees making headlines daily. As the country tries to reverse the low forest cover, a new way of encouraging tree planting has come up in Meru County where the Kenya forest service has granted access to farmers to cultivate crops as they plant and take care of trees popularly known as Shamba System.
