Eldoret react to the new maize scandal

23rd May, 2018

Agriculture and livestock cabinets’ secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri says he is ready for any consequences that will come out of his efforts to clean the rot at the national cereals and produce board, NCPB. This follows the revelation of another maize scandal in which 8 traders masquerading as farmers were paid a whopping 1.9 billion

Shillings. The CS says that money was enough to pay 5000 maize farmers. Farmers who did not get an opportunity to sell their produce to NCPB after the traders filled the

silos with cheap maize from Uganda. This new maize scandal has seen the NCPB managing director resign and 5 other regional managers suspended until investigation have been concluded. The scandal also involves subsidised fertilizer that cartels at NCPB repackaged and sold to farmers at exorbitant prices. The scandal reeks of another case of theft with impunity at the expense of poor Kenyans.
