Moses Njue who worked for the government of Kenya as Chief Pathologist before resigning to work at his own medical school, is now facing charges of organ theft.

Njue together with his son, Lemuel Njue are facing three counts including theft contrary to section 275 of the penal code, willful destruction of evidence and illegal removal of body parts contrary to the Anatomy Act.

The first event took place at Lee Funeral Home, while the other autopsy was allegedly carried out by Njue and his son at Meru’s Consolata Mission Hospital.

It is alleged that while performing the autopsy on Timothy Mwandi Muumbo on June 25, 2015, Dr. Njue stole the said heart at Lee Funeral Home.

Another family in Meru also raised complaints against Njue, claiming that they buried their relative, Benedict Karau, without the heart after Njue performed an autopsy to establish the cause of his death.

While taking a plea at Milimani Courts in Nairobi, it emerged that Njue’s son, Lemuel was the assistant pathologist in the incidents. Lemuel was not in court and Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi issued summons for him to appear in court and answer to the charges before the hearing date on July 3.

After denying the charges, the court ordered Dr Njue to deposit cash bail of Sh300,000 to secure his release.
