David and Goliath: This is the daring man who blocked an MP's overlapping vehicle

18th April, 2018

David Lemayian became an internet sensation overnight after a video of him blocking a vehicle driving against traffic surfaced online.

Lemayian cast a defiant figure with nothing but his striped t-shirt his jeans, a satchel hanging from his shoulder and a pair of trainers, standing against a black Mercedes Benz that was attempting to overlap.

In an interview with the Standard Digital, Lemayian said that more than anything else it was the contrast of the impatient driver set against a line of other vehicles patiently waiting for the light traffic along Kamburu Drive to move that caused his daring decision to block the car.

“I’m not sure if it’s inspiration that made me block the motorist from overlapping, as much as it was a sense of fairness. The people who were in traffic, had been waiting patiently and [the driver of] this big car decided they would be overlapping or trying to cut the line. So that sense of injustice and unfairness to the rest of the motorists made me block the motorist,” Lemayian said.

He added that despite the bold move, he felt the real danger of the driver choosing to ignore him and instead run over him. He advised others not to take such a risk, but to look for alternatives of taking a stand.

“I think we all want to take action in some way and for me in that moment, I felt that that was the action I could take, so no I wouldn’t advice other Kenyans to do so,”
