Almost a quarter of Kenyan women give birth by the age of 18, and nearly half of them by the age of 20. Teenage childbearing is common and increases dramatically from 2 percent of girls at age 15 to 36 percent at age 19. When adolescent girls grow up healthy, and are able to go to school, they are more likely to escape poverty; and they can facilitate the upward social and economic mobility of their families and society.
