Kenya has a shortfall of one hundred and four thousand teachers. The teacher’s Service Commission says it would need to employ 20,000 teachers every year for the next four years to fill the gap. TSC CEO Nancy Macharia who appeared before the national assembly's committee on education says the commission also needs to employ just over 12,000 teachers a year to ensure a 100% transition following the retirement, resignation and deaths affecting teacher numbers. The CEO who was taken to task over the posting of non-local teachers to insecurity prone areas such as Wajir, Mandera and Garissa says teachers posted to such areas are meant to serve in cosmopolitan areas of the counties.
