Malindi residents demand answers on how public debt has risen

19th February, 2018

Details of the Kenya public debt has continued to elicit reactions among Kenyans; with majority of them wondering how the sum was arrived at yet there is too little to show for it. The public debt which stands at sh. 4.58 trillion as of November last year will see each Kenyan part with at least sh. 100,000 in order to clear it. In 2017 alone, records from central bank of Kenya indicate that sh. 690 billion was borrowed last year alone hence shooting the debt up from sh. 3.89 trillion while sh. 580 billion was borrowed in 2016. Residents of Malindi are angry at the debt figures and want to know how the government has spent the money.
